Escape to Belle Isle: The Spirit of Detroit Challenge Second Annual Event Come One, Come all! RESULTS: Results are available from the menu link at the left. Thanks!A big thank you to all the participants of the Second Annual escape To Belle Isle Race!! We grew tremendously this year, and that is thanks to all of you who came back to the race or decided to give this race a try!
Overall, the 5K and 10K went great, with some tremendous times in our age group categories. If you were not able to stick around and claim your medal if you placed, we will send same to you!
We did encounter a few snags towards the end of the race, and we are grateful to those of you that let us know! We can only become a better race by hearing both the good things and the snags!
Regarding the water issue on the course, there were stations that ran out of cups. We had over 1500 cups divided between all stations, and we should not have had this problem. So we will make sure we have double next year to make it right.
Regarding the bottled water post race, we also had almost 500 bottles of water that were graciously bought or donated for our race. I think because we used the honor system and placed the bottles next to the food, we assumed that runners would wait until they finished to take one bottle of water. We heard many runners were taking one or more bottles of water before the race as well as some non-runners, hence why we ran short in the last half hour. So, we will distribute water next year after the finish line, and we ask that all of you come prepared for hot weather ahead of time!! I learned years ago running marathons to get used to carrying a small bottle of water in my hand so that I never ran short, no matter how many water stations. It is a great tip, and you can always throw away the bottle if you don't need it!!
Regarding the walkers, we absolutely encourage those of you who would like to walk the course rather than run the course. Next year, we will allow anyone who wants to walk the course, 5K or 10K, to start a half hour earlier, to ensure that you are finished timely. We want to support anyone who wants to come out and exercise for a good cause!
The Kids Run was a success as it was last year-------the kids really love accomplishing the run and getting rewarded with a trophy or medal. This encourages them to get active and see how rewarding running can be.
Congratulations to all of you who participated-------and we hope to have you back next year for an even better race! --Jenna 2009 Photos: Click this link to check them out! CHECK THE WEBSITE FOR UPDATES AND/OR EMAIL
